What are my options after losing teeth?

Tooth loss can make you feel self-conscious about your smile. Dental implants can restore that confidence by enhancing your functionality and overall oral health. Choose the longest-lasting, most secure tooth replacement option and start smiling again. Whether you’re missing one tooth or a full arch of teeth, we have permanent replacement options to meet every need.

Dental Implants

Dental implants consist of a metal implant that’s placed directly into your gums and jaw, along with an implant restoration (such as a crown) that permanently attaches to the implant. At Reflections Dental Care, our dentists specialize in dental implant preparation, placement, and restoration.

Implant Dentures

If you're missing several teeth or need extractions, a permanent denture solution may be a great option to restore your smile. With implant-supported dentures, we place 4-6 implants and then permanently fix a full arch of 3D-printed teeth to those implants, allowing you to chew, eat, and talk with ease again.

How It Works:

The dental implant placement and restoration process

Placement

Once you’ve been approved for treatment, your doctor will schedule your oral surgery appointment and provide a surgical plan. During the surgery, your dentist in Oklahoma City will make an incision in your gum tissue to securely place a dental implant in the jaw. Next, the area will be cleaned and sutures will be placed to begin the healing process.

Healing & Osseointegration

Your gums and jawbone will begin to heal once your implant has been placed. After 1-2 weeks, the incision site will be healed, but it will take 3-6 months for the implant to permanently bond with your jaw bone through a process called osseointegration. To ensure you are healing properly, we will see you for a couple of check ups during the osseointegration process.

Applying The Restoration

The final step in the implant treatment process is the restoration. Your restoration, or prosthetic dental crown, will be custom crafted to match your smile and securely affixed to the titanium implant. Once your new tooth is in place, your smile will be complete!

"Reflections Dental Care always goes above and beyond to make my experience there comfortable and positive. I have a lot of anxiety over going to the dentist and have had to have a lot of work done, but every time, they’ve helped put me at ease. They remember what makes me feel comfortable and have it ready for me and they don’t make me feel badly for feeling anxious. I don’t like the dentist as a general rule, but I like Reflections!"

"Everyone at Cedar Avenue Family Dentistry is phenomenal. Debra's very professional and courteous at the front desk. Maddie is a fantastic assistant. She took me right back and made sure to explain everything to me. Dr. Chittenden took the time to answer all my questions and is a very careful dentist. My visit was quick and pain free! I had a crown placed and I was out the door in 15 minutes. Highly recommend this practice"

C.J. Bigsby

"The moment I walked through the door I could tell I was in the right place. (I’ve had 38 years in dentistry myself and retired 3 years ago). Cedar Avenue Family Dentistry showed empathy, professionalism and concern about what I wanted from them!!! My concerns were their PRIMARY focus and they spent extra time getting to know me! Extra gentle and extra caring. Wonderful staff. Easy everything! Wonderful experience and I will definitely encourage everyone I know to give them a chance because they’ll not disappoint!"

Laura Baumgartner

"Cedar Avenue Family Dentistry is Amazing. When looking at the business name, many people see Dentistry. However, after you have been seen and cared for, another word starts to show...the word FAMILY. The staff is compassionate and loving and will take care of you. I highly recommend Cedar Avenue Family Dentistry."

MEET THE DOCTORS

Dr. Lance R. Schmidt

In 2004, Dr. Schmidt founded Reflections Dental Care along with his wife, Stephanie, who then served as the practice’s only dental hygienist. Dr. Schmidt and Stephanie have been married since 2003 and have three children: Solomon, Theo, and Stella.

Dr. Schmidt attended the University of Oklahoma and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Sport Sciences. He then went on to earn a Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. After achieving his DDS, he was awarded one of just five available residencies in the renowned Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program.

Since opening Reflections Dental Care in 2004, Dr. Schmidt has placed over 1,000 dental implants. Unlike many other general dentistry practices, the entire process can happen at Reflections Dental Care. There is no need to drive all across town for the different stages of treatment.

It is Dr. Schmidt’s goal to exceed his patients’ expectations and to provide everyone with exceptional care in a positive atmosphere that is both compassionate and of the highest standard of excellent care. He sees his most important contribution to the practice as inspiring and maintaining the vision and culture for the team and patients. His top priority is to create a great work environment whereupon the most natural consequence is great patient care.

Dr. Marie Bockus

Dr. Marie Bockus has been practicing dentistry since 2008. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition from Oklahoma State University and her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. Though a general dentist, she has a gift for working with children and earned an award from the Department of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Bockus enjoys treating both children and adults. Working with kids is one of her biggest strengths, and she’s given a lot of kids a healthy smile (and happy hearts to their parents). She loves helping children develop naturally and improve breathing habits with Myobrace. Other aspects of dentistry that are fun for her are same day crowns using the CEREC technology and improving smiles with Invisalign.

Dr. Bockus and her husband, Hank, have four young children. For fun, she likes to spend time outside with her family, swimming and playing. Dr. Bockus’s most important contribution to the team is making it possible for her patients to have a good experience at the dentist. Showing patients kindness and gentleness is as important to her as providing great dental treatment.

Dr. JoAnne Thomas

Dr. Joanne Thomas has been practicing dentistry since 2019. She graduated with honors from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in Biology and received her Doctorate in Dental Medicine from Boston University Magna Cum Laude. In both undergraduate and dental school, she received awards for her work with underserved communities, particularly with minority and women’s groups. She is passionate about mission work in dentistry and has traveled to both India and Panama to serve rural communities without access to medical and dental professionals. She cares deeply about providing thorough dental care with integrity and compassion.

Dr. Thomas has practiced for the last few years in Massachusetts and Ohio before settling in Oklahoma with her family. She has done several courses post graduate school to certify in Invisalign, 3D modeling and design, and comprehensive oral care. She believes dentistry should be pain and fear free for everyone and hopes that through open and honest communication, she can help you achieve the smile of your dreams.

Dr. Thomas and her husband, Jones, welcomed their first daughter last year! Together, they love playing board games and going on walks around the area. You might find her around the Scissortail dog park with their little dachshund Bella, or volunteering with her local community church. She is excited to join the Reflections Dental Care team and continue providing care with excellence.

Have Questions About Invisalign?

Find Answers Here

If you have minor or moderate orthodontic issues, you are likely a good candidate for treatment with Invisalign. So long as your mouth is free of any oral health issues like gum disease or tooth decay, you will probably be eligible to proceed with treatment. However, Invisalign is not for everyone. Severe orthodontic issues may not be able to be addressed with Invisalign. In these cases, we usually recommend treatment with traditional metal or ceramic braces as they can provide more powerful results. To find out about your options for orthodontic treatment, schedule your consultation today!

While Invisalign trays look very similar to night guards and mouthguards, we do not recommend that you use Invisalign as a nightguard. The clear plastic trays are designed to gently shift your teeth, not protect them. If you grind your teeth at night, we may recommend that you get a night guard to protect your teeth and go with traditional braces instead of Invisalign. If you wear your aligners at night and notice that they are becoming cracked or worn down, this may be a sign that you are grinding your teeth at night. This will affect your treatment so be sure to let your doctor know right away if you think you might be grinding your teeth.

The cost of treatment with Invisalign is usually comparable to the cost of traditional braces. Every case is different, though, so it’s important to discuss your budget with your doctor. During your consultation, your doctor will consider multiple factors including your needs, your lifestyle, and your budget before helping you decide which treatment to proceed with.

Invisalign aligners are nearly impossible to see when wearing them. This is because they are made out of clear plastic and are perfectly fit to your smile. Your trays will be custom-made trimmed to fit to your gum line for a more seamless look. Plus there are no metal brackets or wires, so you can feel confident in your smile throughout treatment. However, if you eat or drink with your aligners in, they could become stained, making them more visible.

These clear aligners are designed onto a mold of your teeth. A lab technician will apply layers of a photo-sensitive liquid resin to this custom mold. Next, the technician will expose this resin to a laser, curing it into a hard, yet flexible, thermoplastic. This plastic is called SmartTrack®, and it was created exclusively for Invisalign treatment. It’s FDA-approved and contains no BPA, BPS, latex, or gluten.
